Do you need......

a team player who supports the school and students inside and outside of the classroom? A passionate educator who is not afraid to dig in and transform a program based on what is best for students and the school?

In my current role as librarian, colleagues and parents alike have commented on how in my three years at AISA I converted the library into a welcoming, user-friendly, efficient place where people want to read and learn. I desire to impart a love of learning in my students and work hard to find meaningful ways to engage every learner. I step back, observe, and adapt my teaching to meet the needs of the students at hand. I am willing to take risks in the classroom, such as in a recent iPad project with my kindergarten and grade 1 library classes where we took photos of all the library “neighborhoods”, uploaded them into Educreations, and created a brief voiceover about the special places to choose resources from.

A teacher, leader, mentor, and critical friend, I wear many hats in my role as teacher and librarian. I have taught English, social studies, drama, journalism, grade 3 and 4, preschool, and served as a librarian in my 25 years of teaching, 22 of which have been overseas. I also mentor teachers with literacy (reading and writing workshops, the Daily 5, 6 Traits of Writing, Real Spelling) and iPad integration. Students love my afterschool Wham Bam Poetry Jam and Storytelling Yoga sessions as well.

We’ve been fortunate to live and work in Jordan, South Africa, Indonesia, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria; each country holds a special place in my heart for the wealth of experience and memories we gained in each one. My love of reading and learning tends to rub off on my students as I hope to inspire each one in some small way. If I make each child smile or feel success, then I have done my job.

Objective

With my varied experiences, to find a position where I can best enable students to reach their full learning potential.
